How do I find information about your programmes?

Our website has the latest TV listings plus lots of extra programme content and is the best place to start. Use the drop down menu or search field to navigate to content. To comment on a programme use the contact us link at the bottom of this page but please read the following FAQs, as they will most likely answer your query much more quickly.

How do I get your channels?

Our channels are available from a number of providers. A full list of operators and channel numbers can be found here.

Your channels aren’t working?

If you are experiencing technical problems receiving our channels please contact your operator, as they are best placed to answer technical queries. A list of operators can be found here.

When is a programme going to air?

TV Listings schedules are finalised 10 days before they are on-air. For the latest information visit the TV Listings section or the individual programme page. You should also like and follow our social media accounts as we post programme news and scheduling information here first.

Can I buy your programmes and merchandise?

A range of programmes and merchandise is available from a range of retailers including Amazon and iTunes. The latest information can be found here.

I've missed an episode. How can I catch-up?

Go to the TV listings page and search for the name of the programme or use the drop down menu on the homepage. Shows are repeated at various points for this very reason.

Can I watch TLC programmes via video on demand?

Some operators that offer our channels have video on demand services that feature our content. Use your operators search facility to find our programmes.

Can I use footage and images from your programmes in a lesson or as part of a presentation?

Due to copyright reasons we are unable to supply clips and images. However, some clips on our DiscoveryTV You Tube channel are embeddable. Instructions on how to do embed video are available here. If you do embed a video you must use the appropriate channel and programme credit.

Can I buy the rights to clips or images from your programmes?

What channels do you air in the UK?

How do I enter a competition?

Go to our competitions page here. Pick a competition and enter using the form. Competition winners will be notified after the closing date via email or telephone. Terms & conditions can be found on each individual competition.

How do I get the newsletter?

Sign up to emails and become a member by signing up for the newsletter here. To unsubscribe click the link at the bottom of the email you get for the newsletter and we will remove you from the list.

Where can I find details on the music used in your programme trailers?

Our Spotify account has playlists of music used in our trailers. Apps like Shazam and SoundHound are readily available and can recognise music tracks instantly.

Where can I find details on the music used in adverts?

For products advertised during the breaks you need to contact the advertiser directly. Discovery cannot be held responsible for the content of these third party sites.

How do I make a complaint about an advert on your channel?

All adverts have been cleared for transmission by Clearcast. If you have a complaint about an advertisement this should be directed to the Advertising Standards Authority who will investigate. If your complaint is about a programme trailer please use the Contact Us form and we will ensure it is passed on to the department responsible and is investigated.

What is product placement?

Product placement is where a company pays a TV channel or a programme-maker to include its products in a programme. As of February 2011, Ofcom has approved product placement in TV programmes specifically made for UK audiences as long as this placement complies with Ofcom rules. Why do adverts sound louder than programmes?

Advertisers compress sound levels that when compared against programmes, which have a wider variation in levels, can appear very different. We have recognised this and use perceived loudness meters to measure the actual loudness of the sound. This means we can adjust the levels of commercials and interstitial materials in accordance with Ofcom guidelines.

I've got an idea for a programme, who do I contact?

We can only accept proposals from TV production companies. If you have an idea for a programme you should research which production companies have worked on similar projects and submit a proposal to them directly. Pact (Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television) has a directory of production companies. If you are from a production company please login via the Producers Portal here.

How do I take part in a show?

Occasionally we look for viewers to take part in our shows. To keep up to date with the latest opportunities follow our social media accounts, regularly visit our programme pages or homepage.

How do I become a presenter?

Discovery does not accept unsolicited show reels. If you want to become a presenter you need to contact a production company or casting agent directly and send them your show reel. Your show reel should be interesting, fun and no longer than 4-5 minutes in length and include several scenes that show variety. Don't go to great expense and get family or friends to help. When you send your reel to a production company enclose a covering letter and ensure your name, age and details are clearly marked. Never send your master copy. PACT (Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television) has a directory, which lists contact details for production companies.

I want to work for Discovery or TLC. How do I find out about vacancies?

I'm outside the UK. Can I watch TLC videos?

Some content is only available to viewers in the UK due to copyright, legal or regulatory reasons.

Why has my comment been taken down from the TLC website?

We moderate all content sent in by users. If your content breaks our terms and conditions, it will be removed. It may be for a legal or copyright reasons or you may have lowered the tone – for example swearing, being derogatory about people or spamming us with links to commercial websites.

How can I advertise on your website?

Why do you list programmes as being subtitled when they aren't?

Our aim is for our listings to be as accurate as possible. We send out lists of programmes we intend to subtitle to magazines, newspapers and electronic programme guides and this is up to date when issued. Very occasionally, we are not unable to subtitle programmes. This may be due to technical problems or late delivery of a programme. We appreciate this causes disappointment and attempt to rectify this as soon we can.

Subtitling obscures some of the programme, what should I do?

Tell us about it using the Contact Us button at the bottom of the page and we will get it rectified as quickly as possible.
